Preparing for any family vacation requires a lot of time and planning and there are so many important things to do before you leave home. It is completely overwhelming as a parent to stay organized and remember everything for EVERYONE – so today I am sharing my personal Travel Prep Checklist that I use to keep myself organized when getting ready for a trip.

When You Book

Aside from finding the best deals on flights or choosing the perfect dates to go on your next trip, you’ll want to check and double check a few important details to make sure you’ll have enough time to get everything in order before you go.

☐ Name on the Ticket Matches Your Passport & Your Passport is Valid (Not Expired)
☐ If a Visa or Visa Waiver is Required
☐ If Vaccines or Medication is Required
☐ Check Your Local Travel Advice Bureau for Warnings
☐ Check for Festivals or Special Events You Might Want to Attend
☐ Check What the Weather Was Like Last Year at That Time of Year
☐ Purchase Travel Insurance
☐ Advise of Any Diet or Mobility Issues

The Week Before You Go

I try to get as much done the week before my vacation as possible to avoid doing everything at the last minute. I pack all the bags for our family this week as well so I have enough time to wash clothes and locate rarely used items (like snorkels).

☐ Make Arrangements for Pets
☐ Ask Someone to Water Plants
☐ Check the Weather
☐ Currency Exchange
☐ Fill Prescriptions
☐ Check your Data Roaming and Wifi Access
☐ Suspend Mail and Newspaper Delivery or Have a Neighbor Collect Them for You
☐ Call Banks and Credit Cards to Let Them Know You Will Be Traveling
☐ Pay All the Bills That Are Due While You’re Traveling
